A few weeks ago, we reported on the effectiveness of Viagra (sildenafil) as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED).

In a recent, we reported on two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in men with ED. In one, a total of 16 participants were randomized to receive sildenafil 50 mg (n=10) or placebo (n=9) for 7 days, and the other group received a combination of sildenafil and vardenafil 60 mg (n=12).

In the second, a total of 12 participants were randomized to receive sildenafil 40 mg (n=12) or placebo (n=9) for 5 days, and the other group received a combination of sildenafil and vardenafil 60 mg (n=12) for 5 days. All the participants were in stable erections.

The main outcome measure of the study was erectile function. The investigators randomized the participants to receive sildenafil or placebo, and then to receive sildenafil or placebo, or vardenafil 60 mg (n=9) or vardenafil 60 mg (n=9) for 5 days. Participants were asked to rate their erectile function at baseline, after 6 weeks of treatment, and after 1 week of treatment.

In the sildenafil group, the average erectile function score was reduced by 16.5 points and in the placebo group by 13.9 points, compared with the rate of the rate in the sildenafil group.

The average total score was significantly reduced from a baseline of 18.9 to 5.3 (p<0.001).

The authors concluded that sildenafil and placebo were effective in improving erectile function.

The results of this study are promising.

We are continuing our discussions of the benefits of sildenafil in men with ED, but as we are continuing our research into the effects of sildenafil on erectile function, it is important to update our practice of prescribing sildenafil to men who do not respond well to treatment with sildenafil.

What is Viagra and How Does It Work?

Viagra is a type of medication called a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. PDE5 enzymes are responsible for breaking down an molecule called cGMP, which is needed to smooth blood out. When blood vessels in your penis become weak, the penis fills with blood. When blood vessels in your penis become wider, it allows more blood to flow into the penis and cause an erection.

Viagra works by relaxing the blood vessels in your penis, allowing more blood to flow into it. As a result, you can get an erection during sex. Viagra does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV.

Viagra should not be taken more than once a day. Viagra may interact with nitrates used for chest pain, so inform your health care provider if you have recently had a heart attack or a stroke.

Viagra should not be taken with certain antibiotics.

They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.

A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.

Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.

“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”
